Assessing How Hunting Pressures Influence Scaled Quail Habitat Selection

scaled quail habitat

By Kennedy Bailey, Carlos Gonzalez, and Ryan Luna

Human presence (as in hunting) can influence how wildlife utilize an area. Often birds “wise up” to hunting pressures and change their habitat selection, making it harder to find them as the season progresses. This study will equip scaled quail with satellite backpacks to assess fine scale movement when pressured with simulated hunting. Results of this research will help us determine how anthropogenic pressures influence scaled quail habitat selection and how movements change as hunting pressures are applied throughout the winter season.
