Vegetation and Soil Responses to Herbicide Treatments

Delaware Project

The Delaware Project evaluates how herbicide treatments on brush influence vegetation communities and soil moisture retention across Chihuahuan Desert rangelands. High-resolution drone imagery will be used to measure changes in vegetation cover, structure, and spatial distribution following treatment. HOBO sensors will continuously record soil moisture and temperature to determine whether changes in vegetation affect water availability and belowground conditions. By combining aerial monitoring with field-based environmental measurements, this research will provide a more complete understanding of how herbicide treatments affect rangeland function. The findings will help land managers evaluate treatment effectiveness and improve herbicide applications intended to promote desirable vegetation, conserve soil moisture, and enhance habitat.
