About Us

Paul Herring serves as Campaign Director and Director of Major Gifts for the Borderlands Research Institute and Sul Ross State University, a role designed to strengthen donor relationships and expand philanthropic support for long-term growth. His responsibilities include leading campaigns, enhancing donor engagement, and cultivating community partnerships across West Texas.

Paul brings nearly 30 years of advancement experience and has raised more than $650 million for higher education institutions. He has held leadership roles at Texas Tech University, St. Mary’s University in San Antonio, the University of Missouri–St. Louis, and the University of Southern Mississippi. His work has consistently focused on building authentic relationships and leading initiatives that enhance institutional impact.

A native of Hattiesburg, Mississippi, Paul earned a bachelor’s degree in public relations and advertising from the University of Alabama. Beyond his professional life, he enjoys live music, sporting events, and West Texas culture. He believes these experiences build community spirit and connect people across backgrounds.

Paul is known for his vibrant personality, collaborative spirit, and dedication to service. Together with his wife Beth and their three children, he is proud to be part of the BRI/SRSU family and the broader West Texas community. His enthusiasm and expertise make him a vital leader in advancing conservation and education in the region.
