Seasonal Patterns in Scaled Quail Roosting Ecology

Luke Christensen
Luke’s research examines how scaled quail select roosting sites across seasons in the Chihuahuan Desert. Scaled quail are fitted with GPS transmitters to identify their roost locations, while drone imagery is used to measure vegetation structure, topography, and surface characteristics surrounding each site. By combining wildlife tracking with high-resolution remote sensing, this project will identify the habitat features that provide suitable roosting conditions throughout the year. The findings will help land managers better incorporate habitat management and restoration practices intended to support scaled quail populations.
