Join us for the Borderlands Birding Bonanza on October 25, 2020!

Advanced and inexperienced birders are welcome to register and join experienced BRI researchers and volunteers at the Dixon Water Foundation’s Alamito Creek Preserve for an educational morning of birding. This preserve is not open to the general public, making this experience a great opportunity to explore this riparian oasis in the desert.

During the three-hour educational tour, you will be guided by researchers and volunteers across upland sites and riparian zones, learning about the different birds and natural habitats. Because this is the start of migration season for some birds, you might encounter zone-tailed hawks, Bell’s vireos, and MacGillivray’s warblers.

At the preserve, you will receive a name tag, birding field guide for the day, and coffee and snacks. During the event please practice social distancing and wear a face mask when necessary.

Please sign up for only one of the two time slots and days in the form below. Times are from 8:00 am to 11:00 am and from 9:00 am to 12:00 pm. Time slots are limited to 10 people to ensure safety and a valuable experience while birding. If any time slots are not available, please check the next open event here: https://bri.sulross.edu/events/.

After signing up, you will receive an email confirmation of the date and time you registered for. Details on exact location and what to bring will be emailed to registrants closer to the event date.

This event is sponsored by the Dixon Water Foundation, the Shield-Ayres Foundation, and the Borderlands Research Institute at Sul Ross State University.
