Livestock Grazing and Plant Community Dynamics on South Texas Rangelands

Ty Goodwin
Ty’s doctoral research at the East Foundation will examine how livestock grazing influences plant community composition, structure, diversity, and productivity across South Texas rangelands. His work will evaluate how grazing intensity, timing, distribution, and management interact with soils, precipitation, and existing vegetation conditions to shape plant-community responses. Field measurements may be combined with satellite imagery to evaluate vegetation patterns across broader areas and examine changes extending beyond the timeframe of the study. The findings will help clarify how livestock management can be used to sustain productive working lands while maintaining diverse and resilient plant communities and wildlife habitat.
