Will Massa

Habitat & Wildlife

Will Massa grew up in the Texas Hill Country, where he developed a deep appreciation for the outdoors. With a passion for nature in all its forms, he enjoys exploring and learning about native plants, wildlife, and the many interconnected aspects of the natural world. While he does not focus on a specific specialization, his curiosity and love for conservation drive him to continuously expand his knowledge. Will is set to graduate in May 2025 with a bachelor’s degree in Natural Resource Management.

Will Massa works primarily under Emily Blumentritt, a graduate student at Sul Ross State University, contributing to research on wintering grassland birds in the Trans-Pecos region. Will’s project complements this work by examining forage availability and vegetation cover at each tank. The research focuses on analyzing seed presence in both standing vegetation and the topsoil horizon, aiming to identify key plant species that support overwintering grassland birds and assess how cover varies across different sites.
