Jack Bussey

Game Bird & Habitat

Jack Bussey, a junior at Sul Ross State University, is studying Natural Resource Management. His passion for wildlife began while hunting and fishing across Texas, where he developed a fascination with the plants and habitats that support native species. This curiosity led him to focus his college career on understanding ecosystems, further enriched by his involvement with the Plant ID and Quiz Bowl teams. His experiences at Sul Ross have deepened his appreciation for the wild landscapes of Texas, particularly the Trans-Pecos region.

As a BUMP student, Jack contributes to graduate research by analyzing Acoustic Recording Unit (ARU) data to study bird species distribution in the Trans-Pecos. He is also working on a soil water potential project tied to research on grazing method variations at Mimms Ranch. Both projects provide valuable insights into habitat dynamics and wildlife conservation in the Chihuahuan Desert, reinforcing Jack’s dedication to ecological research and land stewardship.
